And this is from........

Please note the ugly red/pink circle on Isaac's face, siblings of which can also be found on his arm, wrist, back, and leg:

What is this?!?!?! A bite? Mosquito? Ant? Chigger? Cicada?!??????

Again, no bugs in Seattle; this is a new arena of panic for me.

Looks like probably a mosquito. Ants would generally not get up to his face before you knew it. Ant bites hurt right away. I've never seen a chigger bite, so I don't think they are that common. I'm pretty sure cicadas don't bite at all. They just make a lot of noise.

Mosquito bites are raised red bumps that can be circular or kind of a blotch. If he is scratching put a little toothpaste on it to take away the itch.

If you want to look at pictures for yourself check out this page:

(I would make it a link, but I don't want you to think it's comment spam:o) )

Good luck with all our east coast wildlife;-)

PS
Prevention-make sure there is no standing water in your yard. That is where they lay eggs.
Don't go outside without bug spray around dusk...that's when they like to come out.

Jen: thanks for the info on ants vs. mosquitos! Of course I was joking about the harmless but exceedingly noisy cicadas ;). I will be conducting a sweep of the yard for standing water tomorrow!

Mom: So far he seems not to be scratching them, and they seem in turn to be disappearing. It just makes me so upset to see his precious, perfect little face marred in any way.
