Grandma Jane: Lots of knobs, yes; to twist off and swallow, no. This toy is made especially for babies under 1 year old -- it's called a Skwish Classic (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/asin/B00008XY4A/abusinessresourc/103-4617247-0829422). He is completely fascinated with it (for only 10 min at a time, of course) because it has both rubber-bandy things and knobby things to chew on, and because he can throw it around and it bounces. And the beads slide back and forth on the rods, so it's like a rattle.
