Isaac vs. Cheerios
Clayton's pediatrician gave him the OK to start Cheerios, which by extension means that Isaac is legal to eat Cheerios also, being three weeks older than Clayton. Last night we bought a big ol' box, and tonight gave it the go-ahead. The Baby Bible (aka What to Expect the First Year) recommended, when beginning finger foods, to put four or five pieces of food in front of baby at a time so as to intrigue, but not overwhelm. The "intrigue" part worked very well -- Isaac was obsessed with trying to rake them into his hand. But the eating part, eh, not so well -- he couldn't extract them out of his fat little fist. In the end, I helped him get a few into his mouth (one at a time), and he made a face at me to show me how weird a Cheerio tastes before either pushing it out with his tongue or mashing it around in his mouth and coughing on it because it's so dry.
Obviously, this was not a huge success, but it was tons of fun to watch him try to figure out how to get the wee little Cheerio in his big pie-hole.

It was hi-larious to watch. We have tried to get him started on a sippy-cup, but he has not taken to it. I think this is because I am constantly lured by the non-spill sippy-cups, which are impossible to get even a drop out of unless you pull a huge vacuum on the sippy. Isaac is much more a fan of gnawing on the sippy than sucking on it, so it doesn't work so well for him. One day I will get around to buying some of those old-skool sippy-cups, where liquid flows freely and messily from the top -- perhaps then he will get the idea.
