Chin rash takes over face -- parents take action
I'm sorry I keep talking about this awful chin rash of Isaac's without presenting photographic evidence. You can see a little of it in the close-up below, but most of it is hidden in his 2nd chin. It is raised and bumpy and not at all cute, and it did not seem to be going away, no matter what moisturizing or water-repelling treatment we gave it. So, finally accepting the inevitable, we quit with the solid foods. Sigh. And they're going to give us PhD's? Unfortunately, my judgement was tainted in this matter: Isaac's poor mom didn't want to THINK that her darling baby could be, like, allergic or anything, so she pushes and pushes. And look what it gets her, silly mom. After 1.5 days with no solids whatsoever, the rash is not vanished, but is greatly diminished in height, such that Baby-Bot's face is smooth and silky to the touch once more. I talked to Isaac's teacher, and she says that, while pediatricians in the U.S. typically suggest starting solids between 4 and 6 months, elsewhere in the world, people usually wait as close as possible to 6 months before starting anything. The reason is that babies' immune systems are unusually reactive when they are very young, so they are much more likely to have reactions to new things then, rather than later. I also read that babies' stomachs don't even start secreting digestive acids until 6 months, so Isaac couldn't even break down the food he was eating very well (explaining the crazy poops). So we will back off for a bit, and try solids again at a later date, and likely with much more success.
